The government has set a goal of launching 5G services in Pakistan by December 2022, which will open up new investment opportunities and speed up progress toward the goal of “Digital Pakistan.”

Syed Aminul Haque, the Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, confirmed this during a meeting with a high-level Huawei delegation here on Tuesday.

Charles Yang, Huawei Technologies’ President (Middle East Region), led the delegation.

The federal minister briefed the delegation on projects underway in the country to improve mobile connectivity and internet access, especially in underserved and unserved areas.

Haque briefed the delegation on the government’s plans to introduce 5G services in the country, stating that the services would be available by December 2022.

He also praised Huawei’s efforts to digitally transform Pakistan.

According to Yang, Huawei’s sole emphasis in the area is on the use and promotion of 5G networking.

Along with Mark Meng, CEO of Huawei Technologies Pakistan, and Deputy CEO, Ahmed Bilal Masud, the delegation paid a visit to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) headquarters.

The delegation met with Maj General (retired) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, to discuss matters of mutual interest and investment opportunities.

The two sides addressed Huawei Technologies’ future plans in Pakistan, as well as the creation of creative digital and financial solutions to help Pakistan move closer to being a “Digital Pakistan.”
