Pakistan has introduced a digital visa initiative, allowing citizens from 126 countries to enter the country for business and tourism without the need for a traditional visa. This significant development aims to boost investment, tourism, and religious tourism.
The federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, made this decision during a meeting on Wednesday. The cabinet also approved the establishment of special courts under the SECP Act 1997, the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Denmark, and an increase in the number of members on the Privatization Commission Board.
During the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to simplifying business processes and improving the ease of doing business in Pakistan. He noted that a recent inter-ministerial meeting reached a consensus on adopting a more flexible visa policy to attract foreign investment and tourists.
“The new visa regime includes significant changes, such as offering free visas to businesspeople and tourists from 126 countries,” stated PM Shehbaz. He expressed confidence that this policy will enhance Pakistan’s appeal to both tourists and businesspeople.
Visas will be issued within 24 hours via an electronic travel authorization form, expediting the process significantly. Moreover, e-gates will be established at nine airports and Gwadar port, with the initial phase covering Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports.
This initiative reflects Pakistan’s proactive approach to fostering a more business-friendly environment and promoting the country as a prime destination for international tourists and investors.
