TotalEnergies is pleased to announce the appointment of Mansur Zhakupov as the new Country Chair and Managing Director for Exploration and Production (EP) in Qatar. In this pivotal role, Zhakupov will oversee and coordinate all of TotalEnergies’ activities within the country, including comprehensive operations encompassing both operated and non-operated assets.

Zhakupov brings a wealth of experience to this position, with a career spanning over 18 years across four continents. Originally from Kazakhstan, his diverse journey in the energy sector has seen him hold various key roles.

Previously, Zhakupov served as the Country Chair and CEO of TotalEnergies Tunisia and later as the Country Chair and Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Australia. His most recent role was as Vice President (Hydrogen) at TotalEnergies, based at the company’s headquarters in Paris.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Zhakupov stated, “I am thrilled to lead an organization with such a long-standing legacy in the country. I had the pleasure of working in Qatar back in 2010-2013, and I carry fond memories of my assignment here. I look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders to support the country’s energy strategy and the Qatar National Vision for 2030.”

TotalEnergies has a rich history in Qatar dating back to 1936 and holds diverse interests in exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, lubricant marketing, and renewable power generation. The company is a key participant and operator of the Al Khalij oilfield (offshore) and holds a significant stake in the major Al Shaheen oilfield (offshore) operated by the North Oil Company.

Furthermore, TotalEnergies is a founding partner of Qatargas and Dolphin Energy, with substantial interests in Qatargas 2 and Dolphin Energy. In 2022, TotalEnergies became QatarEnergy’s first partner in the North Field East and North Field South LNG projects, solidifying its presence in the country’s energy landscape.

TotalEnergies also plays a significant role in refining and petrochemical ventures, including QAPCO, Qatofin, RLOC, and Laffan Refineries. Additionally, the company is a prominent partner in the Al Kharsaah utility-scale solar power plant.

Mansur Zhakupov’s extensive international experience and leadership align seamlessly with TotalEnergies’ commitment to a sustainable future, bridging the aspirations of a multi-energy company with those of a multi-energy country.
