Just ahead of the federal budget announcement for 2022-23, the federal government named Asim Ahmad, a BS-21 officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS), as the new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Mr. Asim Ahmad, a BS-21 officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS), has been appointed as Chairman, of the Federal Board of Revenue under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further instructions, according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division.
Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmad, the former head of the FBR, has been transferred and reverted to the FBR with immediate effect. Ahmad has also been freed of the additional responsibility of Revenue Division Secretary.
According to sources, the summary was moved to appoint the chairman FBR for a period of 120 days.
From April 2021 to August 2021, Asim Ahmed served as Chairman of the FBR. In the field of information technology, he has also served as an FBR Member (IT).
The previous government appointed Dr. Ashfaq to the position of FBR chairman on August 24, 2021, replacing Asim Ahmad.
