Prime Minister Imran Khan unveiled Pakistan’s first-ever environmentally friendly electric motorcycle (E-bike).

The debut of the E-bike is part of the government’s commitment to combat climate change. The E-Bike was built by a local company, Jolta Electric.

The JE-70, JE-70 L, JE-70 D, JE-100 L, JE-125 L, JE-Scooty, and JE-sports bike will be offered as E-Bike variants. All of the motorcycles are energy efficient and can be charged overnight, in addition to having no clutch or gears and requiring no maintenance.

The Prime Minister, speaking at the occasion, described the launch as a “futuristic stride,” noting that the new electric vehicle (EV) legislation was part of a broader commitment to make Pakistan more clean and green.

“We must manufacture electric buses and automobiles in order to solve the issue of pollution in major cities where levels have reached unsafe levels,” the Prime Minister maintained. He added that in order to combat pollution, the government was implementing a 10-billion-tree Tsunami project and establishing national parks.

Pakistan is currently recognized as one of the few countries spearheading the fight against global warming, the premier stated.

Additionally, the PM revealed that the government was developing master plans for cities, with some set to be completed within six months. “For the first time in Pakistan, we are developing long-term plans for these cities,” the prime minister remarked.

He continued by stating that the government will prioritize water treatment, waste disposal, and the construction of waste treatment plants.
