Pakistan Loses Rs.240 Billion Due to the Smuggling of Petrol Annually - Startup Pakistan

According to a report by the Petroleum Commission, Pakistan loses Rs.240 billion annually due to petroleum product smuggling; however, this data was made public following approval by the federal cabinet.

In 2020, the Commission reported 486 filling stations throughout the country and confiscated 27,911,746 litres of smuggled gasoline and 997,037,434 litres of smuggled diesel, accounting for less than 20% of total smuggled items.

However, approximately four times as much smuggled fuel has now made its way to Pakistan through tax evasion. Additionally, the total smuggling of it has resulted in a massive loss to Pakistan’s national exchequer of approximately 240 billion rupees.
