The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Tourism Department has initiated proceedings to control the influx of tourists to the city. New improvements, taking into account local communities whose earnings are predominantly from this sector, will also be implemented.
Figures have shown that in some districts, the number of visitors is rising at a rapid pace and attracted more than a million tourists last year. As a consequence, all 4,000 hotels and restaurants in the area were booked to accommodate the strong inflow of visitors.
Saifullah claimed that a comprehensive plan to promote high-end tourism in Gilgit Baltistan has been established by his team.
Over the past couple of years, large-scale mass tourism has been on the rise, but because many tourists bring their own tents and food items, it is not enough for the local population. They do not, therefore, contribute to the local economy at all,’ he said.
