Atadjan Movlamov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, appealed to Abdul Razak Dawood, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC).
The historical bilateral relationships were emphasized by both parties. They accepted that bilateral trade was below its true potential and wanted to maximize the real potential of bilateral trade.
In view of the connection between Pakistan and Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan now wants to have trade ties with Pakistan as well. The Ministry of Commerce is therefore developing a plan to integrate Turkmenistan into a desirable destination in Pakistan. This is all part of how to merge Afghanistan and Pakistan with the five Central Asian Republics.
The Ambassador displayed a keen interest in holding this year’s 6th meeting of the Pak-Turkmenistan Joint Governmental Commission in order to fit into this strategy. In addition, the Turkmen side also addressed the signing of the Gwadar Port and Turkmen Ports Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Prime Minister’s Advisor on Trade and Investment also appreciated the Turkmen proposal for the transit of Turkmen goods through rail and road transport through the ports of Gwadar and Karachi.
The two sides have decided that the 3rd Joint Working Task Force on Trade (JWT) would soon be convened to address a wide range of bilateral trade issues. It was decided that technical level meetings would be held by both sides to finalize the agenda for the 3rd meeting of the JWT.
