Engro Corporation, one of Pakistan’s premier business conglomerates, has announced the appointment of Ahsan Zafar Syed as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company disclosed this information in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.

Ghias Khan, the current President and CEO of Engro Corporation, will continue in his role until the conclusion of his term in April 2024.

The notice expressed the board’s gratitude towards Ghias Khan for his leadership and dedication, which have significantly contributed to the company’s growth over the years.

Ahsan Zafar Syed brings over 30 years of experience with Engro, having started his career with the company when it was known as Exxon Chemical Pakistan Limited. He played a crucial engineering role in the construction of the EnVen plant for Engro Fertilizers, which stands as the second-largest single-train urea plant globally.

During his tenure as CEO of Engro Energy, Syed oversaw power and mining projects valued at USD 1.9 billion. He played a pivotal role in the successful exploration of Pakistan’s largest coal reserves in Thar.

Under the leadership of Ghias Khan, Engro Corporation achieved significant milestones over the past seven years. Engro Fertilizers, the flagship business, emerged as the most valuable fertilizer company on the PSX.

Key projects, including the Thar project and the partnership with VOPAK for the LNG Terminal, were executed successfully. Engro also expanded its portfolio by entering the telecommunication infrastructure sector through Engro Enfrashare and establishing Engro FZE in Dubai for regional trade.

Ghias Khan’s implementation of the current operating model for Engro Corporation earned several awards and recognition. Notably, four Group companies secured top positions in the PSX awards for 2023, with Engro being recognized as a leading employer of choice.

The appointment of Ahsan Zafar Syed reflects Engro Corporation’s commitment to continuity and excellence in leadership as it continues its journey of growth and innovation in the Pakistani business landscape.
