The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has secured the top spot in the Arab world and ranked 28th globally in the Artificial Intelligence Index, according to Tortoise Media. The index, compiled by a global company with an advisory board and AI experts from around the world, aims to monitor the advancements in artificial intelligence across 62 countries that have chosen to invest in this transformative technology.

The index evaluates various criteria divided into seven sub-pillars to assess the progress of each country. These criteria include talent, infrastructure, operational environment, research and development, government strategy, and trade. Based on these parameters, the UAE achieved notable rankings in several sub-categories.

In terms of infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence, the UAE secured the fourth position globally. The country also ranked 24th in terms of government strategies that support technology, 29th in the standard of commercial projects focusing on artificial intelligence, and 34th in research related to technology.

The report highlights that the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence will profoundly impact businesses, governments, and societies. This year, the AI industry has witnessed significant advancements that have propelled it forward. The emergence of ChatGPT, an AI model, and the subsequent competition among major technology companies to develop their own AI models have sparked intense debates about effectively managing the risks associated with this new technology.

The UAE’s leading position in the Artificial Intelligence Index is a testament to the country’s commitment to harnessing the potential of AI for its continued growth and development. With its robust infrastructure and government support, the UAE is well-positioned to embrace AI-driven innovations and drive progress in various sectors.

The adoption and advancement of artificial intelligence have the potential to revolutionize industries, reshape economies, and transform societies. As the UAE continues to prioritize the development of AI capabilities, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI and leveraging its benefits for the betterment of businesses, governments, and the wider society.
