Google has been registered as a company with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
According to authoritative sources, the SECP has awarded Google a certificate of registration under Section 435 of the Companies Act of 2017.
According to accessible documentation, Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. has incorporated under the 2017 Companies Act in order to create a liaison office in Pakistan.
According to insiders, Google will shortly begin operations in Pakistan after registering with the SECP. Next week, a Google group travelling to Pakistan will meet with Pakistani authorities to examine the company’s operations in Pakistan.
According to sources, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) was in contact with multinational corporations and attempting to entice them to invest in Pakistan, but the companies were hesitant owing to the political uncertainty.
However, there has been progress in this direction, with Google and Tik Tok agreeing to open offices in Pakistan, while the ministry continues to negotiate with Facebook.
The IT ministry officials are optimistic that Google will open an office in Pakistan within the next few days. According to MoITT officials, Google has initiated multiple efforts in Pakistan in recent years.
Google launched career certificates in September to provide Pakistanis with flexible learning routes. Google introduced a suicide hotline in Pakistan in June 2022 to address suicide instances and mental health challenges.
The MoITT official stated that Google’s incorporation in Pakistan is a positive indicator. Google is investing $3.5 million in its certification programme, and the company’s registration with SECP indicates that it intends to invest more.
