The trade embargo against India could be lifted soon, following recent communication between the two countries’ prime ministers, which appears to have thawed the icy bilateral relations.
After PM Imran Khan tested positive for COVID-19 on March 20, 2021, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a message to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan expressing his best wishes. PM Imran thanked him, as well as anyone else who sent him well wishes.
Modi also wrote Prime Minister Khan a letter on Pakistan Resolution Day, in which he expressed India’s desire for cordial relations with “the people of Pakistan.” Following the suspension of trade with India in 2019, Pakistan has now imported life-saving medicines from India.
“The Prime Minister has been in isolation since the recent thawing began since he is COVID positive,” he told a news outlet. Since I don’t want to annoy him, I haven’t spoken with him. I genuinely hope that India and the United States will restore their trade ties. Politics and business should not be mixed.”
