The Lahore High Court (LHC) was approached on Saturday to impose a ban on social media applications such as Bigo Live, TikTok, Likee and others, citing that they are becoming a source of indecent content promotion in the region.
Advocate Waqas filed a petition with the LHC noting that applications are becoming a source of waste of time for young people, such as TikTok, Bigo Live, Likee and others. The application reported that, in addition to this, TikTok claimed the lives of many young people who lost their lives while trying to shoot short videos for the app, rendering app owners and respondents to government authorities in the case.
The petition argued that the apps should be banned immediately, in addition to directing the authorities to enact regulations for the regulation of such applications. This is not the first time a petition has been filed before the LHC to impose a ban on TikTok.
In addition, the request pointed out that these social media applications had become a source of promotion of vulgar content and that, despite bringing the matter to the attention of the authorities in question, including the PTA, no action had been taken.
