The Federal Railway Minister, Azam Khan Swati, visited Pakistan’s Hutchison Ports. A thorough tour of the facilities and their capabilities as a state-of-the-art terminal was offered to him.
The Minister has also revised the phase 2 expansion plans for the port. The Minister told Hutchison Ports Pakistan that external infrastructure and access to the internal railway siding of the terminal will be completed by March 31, 2021, as part of the expansion plans.
It was also discussed that by repurposing the coal yard sidings adjacent to the terminal facilities, Pakistan Railways could provide rail connectivity in the interim period.
In a statement, Captain Rashid Jamil, General Manager and Head of Hutchison Ports Pakistan, said, “The management of Hutchison Ports Pakistan is pleased to have hosted the Federal Minister on this occasion and would like to thank the Minister of Railways for his visit, as it marks a positive start to the New Year.”
Since its first day of operations, the port has been playing an important role by establishing ideal conditions for accelerated trade. It will further expand the capacity of Karachi and accelerate its transformation into a prime hub for trade and transport activities in South Asia.
