Shell Pakistan Limited and K-Electric Limited (KE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly establish the first three electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations across Karachi and its connecting highways, playing an active role in the government’s objective of encouraging the use of electric vehicles. The locations chosen for the installation of 50 KWH Rapid chargers are: the Khayaban-e-Bahria Shell Security Filling-Station, the Gulshan Town Askari Filling Station and the Gadap Town Mardan Filling Station.
Shell and KE will discuss the possibility of additional sites over the next 3 to 5 years and extend the EV charging network strategically. Although SPL will participate in the deployment, site planning, installation and management of charging station equipment, KE will ensure grid enhancement.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Shell Pakistan’s General Retail Manager Taha Magrabi said: “Billions of people rely on transport to get around.” There are about 1 billion cars on the world’s highways. This means that the transport industry has a fundamental role to play in helping to minimize pollution globally. The Government of Pakistan has supported the EV strategy to help combat the effects of climate change and provide its citizens with affordable transport. Together with KE, SPL plays a key role in this sector and is keen to help the EV strategy and its goals with our cooperation.
“As the world moves towards cleaner modes of transport, KE seeks to enable this shift by adding to the infrastructure that will support the introduction of EVs across Karachi and Pakistan,” said K-Chief Electric’s Strategy Officer, Naz Khan.
