The federal government has appointed Rashid Mahmood Langrial, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, as the new Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Wednesday.

According to the notification, “Rashid Mahmood, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Secretary, Power Division, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, is transferred and posted as Chairman, Federal Board of Revenue, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further orders.”

Sources earlier confirmed that the federal government had decided to appoint Langrial to the position following the incumbent Chairman, Amjed Zubair Tiwana’s request for early retirement. Tiwana, who is set to retire on August 15, sought retirement six months before reaching the age of superannuation, prompting the search for a successor.

Langrial’s appointment comes at a critical time as the FBR plays a key role in managing the country’s fiscal policies and tax administration. His experience in the Pakistan Administrative Service is expected to contribute to the effective leadership and operational efficiency of the FBR.
