In a bid to ensure transparency and fair pricing within the fertilizer industry, Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has mandated a third-party audit to ascertain the cost of production for fertilizer companies. This directive was issued during a Fertilizer Review Committee meeting held on Thursday.

The meeting, which was also attended by Federal Secretary for Industries and Production, Dr Muhammad Fakhre Alam Irfan, focused on evaluating the stock availability, demand, and pricing of urea fertilizer across the country.

Minister Hussain reassured attendees that there is no shortage of urea fertilizer in Pakistan, emphasizing that the uninterrupted supply of gas to fertilizer companies is being maintained to ensure smooth production.

In addition to the audit, the minister instructed fertilizer companies to review the performance of their dealers and agencies. He called on provincial authorities to verify the legitimacy of these entities, with a mandate to blacklist any ghost dealers and agencies identified.

The minister also underscored the importance of ensuring a consistent supply of fertilizer to all provinces. To maintain close oversight of the situation, it was decided that the Fertilizer Review Committee would convene weekly.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a transparent and equitable fertilizer market, aiming to support the agricultural sector and ensure fair practices across the industry.
