The Women in the Digital Economy Fund (WiDEF) has appointed Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, as one of the nine global digital inclusion leaders to join its inaugural Advisory Council. This global fund, a collaboration between USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, managed by CARE, Global Digital Inclusion Partnership, and the GSMA Foundation, aims to accelerate efforts to bridge the gender digital divide.
The Advisory Council, comprising representatives from South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa across private sector, civil society, government, and research sectors, will provide crucial guidance. Their role involves shaping WiDEF’s evidence standards, identifying key challenges for focused initiatives, and offering recommendations on program scope.
Aamir Ibrahim, recently participating in discussions during the Mobile World Congress 2024, expressed Jazz’s commitment to ensuring smartphone access and vital financial services for every Pakistani. He emphasized Jazz’s role in removing barriers to women’s digital and financial inclusion, aligning with the company’s mission as Pakistan’s leading digital operator.
Jazz has reported significant progress in increasing women’s inclusion within its fintech platform, JazzCash. The efforts have resulted in a remarkable 30 percent female representation, a substantial increase from the previous 17 percent a few years ago.
Aamir Ibrahim shared Jazz’s dedication to fostering a more inclusive and balanced economic landscape in Pakistan. The company aims to achieve a 50 percent representation of women in its digital wallet services in the coming years, demonstrating a proactive stance towards gender equality and empowerment.
