Joseph Ghorayeb

HSBC, a leading international banking and financial services institution, has announced the appointment of Joseph Ghorayeb as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Bahrain, effective from 1 September 2023. Joseph Ghorayeb will succeed Chris Russell, who is retiring after an impressive 18-year tenure at HSBC, the last three of which were spent in Bahrain.

Joseph Ghorayeb brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned HSBC professional, having started his journey with the bank in Canada in 2006. Over the years, he has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to the institution. Joseph’s journey took him to the Middle East in 2012, where he assumed key leadership roles within HSBC’s operations in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain. Notably, he most recently served as the Head of Wholesale Banking in Bahrain, a position he took up in 2022.

Stephen Moss, Chief Executive Officer of the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey (MENAT) region at HSBC Group, expressed his anticipation of working closely with Joseph Ghorayeb to usher in the next phase of growth for HSBC Bahrain. Moss highlighted the pivotal role Bahrain plays within HSBC’s ambitious growth agenda and acknowledged the significant contributions made by outgoing CEO Chris Russell during his tenure.

Joseph Ghorayeb himself expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead HSBC in Bahrain, a market where the bank’s presence has spanned nearly 80 years. He emphasized the strong foundation HSBC has established in Bahrain and affirmed his commitment to further enhancing the bank’s position as a premier international banking institution in the region.

HSBC’s legacy in Bahrain dates back to 1944, and the bank has been instrumental in offering a comprehensive range of personal and wholesale banking services. This includes a market-leading securities and custody service, trade financing solutions, and global payment systems.

Joseph Ghorayeb’s appointment reflects HSBC’s commitment to maintaining its strong leadership in Bahrain and its dedication to continuing its role as a key player in the financial landscape of the region.
