Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has launched a new service designed to expedite the import and authorization of pesticides in Pakistan. PSW has implemented a system that facilitates electronic registration of pesticide products and premises with the Department for Plant Protection (DPP) as part of this initiative. The system, known as the Unified Registration System (URS), allows for the validation of pesticide products and facilities in real time during customs clearance.

According to Pakistan’s trade regulations, all pesticide imports must be subjected to a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) conducted by third parties. This inspection ensures that imported pesticides meet both international and domestic standards.

The newly introduced module enables PSI companies to electronically transmit inspection certificates to the PSW system in order to facilitate regulatory compliance. Then, these certificates are made available to merchants and regulatory agencies for verification.

The new module of PSW relies on electronic validations facilitated by the integration between PSW and the DPP, as well as the locally developed Integrated Tariff for Trade (ITT). Through the ITT, pesticide dealers can provide four-digit product codes when submitting PSW system declarations.

This enables PSW to automatically route shipments to the appropriate DPP office for processing based on the relevant regulatory requirements for each shipment.

Syed Aftab Haider, CEO of Pakistan Single Window, said in a statement, “The new service simplifies the inspection process and ensures consistent application of laws, while reducing the time and cost associated with submitting paper-based documents to numerous authorities. The electronic delivery of PSI certificates increases the process’s transparency and integrity.

This new service represents a significant achievement in PSW’s mission to digitise and transform Pakistan’s cross-border commerce landscape.
