SunExpress to commence operations in Pakistan

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, will soon begin operations in Pakistan, giving travellers to Turkey additional options. The airline has requested permission to begin operations in the country, which is presently being processed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and will be forwarded to the Aviation Division shortly.

SunExpress intends to operate flights between Pakistan and Turkey, giving travellers who presently rely on Pakistan International Airlines and other flag carriers a variety of alternatives. The action comes as the airline expands its global operations to aid in Turkey’s recovery from the earthquake’s devastation.

In 2022, SunExpress carried 10.7 million passengers and had an occupancy rate of 85 percent, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Max Kownatzki, the chief executive officer of the airline, indicated confidence in Turkey’s recovery and emphasised the importance of promoting Turkish tourism abroad.

The new development comes just weeks after Virgin Atlantic and Ethiopian Airlines announced plans to commence operations in Pakistan due to “low yield operations” and “low yield operations,” respectively.

Due to its rich history, culture, and distinct cuisine, Turkey has long been a popular destination for honeymooners and solitary travellers from Pakistan. It is anticipated that the introduction of SunExpress’ operations will encourage existing industry players to enhance their services and facilities, providing travellers with more comfortable and convenient travel options.

SunExpress’ premiere date in Pakistan has yet to be confirmed. However, the news will likely be embraced by tourists seeking more options when visiting Turkey.
