K2 Airways, an airline sponsored by Pakistani businesspeople and professionals located in the United Arab Emirates, is in the “final stages” of its launch, according to a press release from the company.
According to the press release, K2 Airways would be the “first private airline in Pakistan to introduce Embraer E-Jets” in commercial aviation.
This year, the airline intends to serve particular domestic locations using two Embraer E-190s. The objective is to connect underutilised and smaller airports in Pakistan with Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore to facilitate travel for Pakistani passengers.
This will narrow the gap because the airline will provide passengers the option of selecting the appropriate airport within the catchment area. The airline can also serve as a feeder service for existing domestic carriers, complementing their operations, according to the press statement.
It said that the airline has a “well-considered strategy” to broaden and alter the travel experience of its passengers through the “exposure of Embraer E-Jets cabin, which is based on 2+2row seating and comfortable leg space.”
According to the press release, the businessmen and professionals behind the airline have “astonishing passion for aviation” and “believe in utilising modern automation tools and assembling young and dynamic professionals to create a strong, technologically appropriate, and digitally enabled aviation entity in Pakistan.”
Senior Commercial Manager Sarah Khoso told Dawn.com that the airline’s CEO is Tariq Raja, an electronic engineer whose family is affiliated with the Pakistan Air Force.
Since 1992, he has resided and operated a thriving business in the UAE, she said, adding that Asim Mairaj was another senior member of the organisation.
Khoso stated that the airline intended to begin operations in 2023, “subject to the issuance of statutory, regulatory certifications and approvals.”
