Pakistan’s first electric bus service launched in Karachi

Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister of Information and Transport for Sindh, inaugurated Pakistan’s first electric bus service in Karachi on Friday.

After inaugurating the bus service, Memon told the media that it is the best and most affordable public transportation option. He stated that the bus service will be available to anyone commuting to the airport beginning today (Friday).

He stated that eco-friendly Peoples Electric Bus service would begin from Tank Chowk in Malir Cantt to Clock Tower Roundabout in Sea View through Khayaba-e-Ittehad.

He stated that the fee has been set at Rs50 in order to provide an inexpensive and enjoyable ride. He stated that the electric buses contain more than 30 seats, including seats reserved for those with disabilities.

He stated that in the initial phases, ten electric cars will operate between the Airport and the Clock Tower. He stated that a solar charging system for buses had been constructed. He stated that each bus is capable of travelling 240 kilometres on a single charge.

Memon stated in a tweet that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led Sindh government always prioritises development, progress, and prosperity.

The Sindh government decided last month to establish electric taxi services for Karachi residents, including pink taxis driven by women for female passengers.

Memon stated that the taxi service would be introduced in two phases, using blue and pink taxis. To enhance safety and security, the pink cabs will be equipped with cameras and a monitoring system.

He stated that the direction of electric transportation services strives to be environmentally friendly, safe, inexpensive, and user-friendly.
