The Government of Punjab has collected a record amount of tax money using e-Pay Punjab, an online platform for the collection of government receipts: approximately Rs 135 billion.
This was mentioned during a progress assessment meeting conducted by Syed Bilal Haider, chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Faisal Yousaf, Director General of IT-Operations for the PITB, and his staff also attended the conference.
Syed Bilal Haider noted on this occasion that e-Pay Punjab has enabled citizens to pay their taxes online either on the go or from the comfort of their own homes.
The participants of the meeting were informed that e-Pay Punjab has surpassed 24 million online transactions.
The Punjab government has collected Rs 83 billion in Sales Tax, Rs 16 billion in Token Tax, Rs 5 billion in Traffic Challan, Rs 16 billion in Property Tax, and over Rs 354 million in lieu of e-challan, according to the report.
PITB, in partnership with the Punjab Finance Department and 1 Link, has developed e-Pay Punjab to enable online payment of 24 taxes/levies for 11 distinct government departments in Punjab. It permits payments to be made by ATM, internet banking, mobile phone banking, or in person by visiting 1Link member banks in close proximity. Taxes may also be paid using Jazz Cash, Easy Paisa, U-paisa, and other microfinance institutions.
