South Korea to gift Pakistan solar power plant

Solar Power Plant

In celebration of forty years of cordial and fruitful diplomatic relations, the Korean government will present Pakistan with a sophisticated solar power plant. South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCFG) would establish the project.

In preparation for this occasion, the Korean embassy in Islamabad has scheduled to host an interactive seminar on “Development Corporation Role of EDCF for Promoting Renewable Energy” on November 17, 2022 (today).

In 2020, around 10.57 percent of Pakistan’s total installed power generation capacity will come from renewable sources (wind, sun, and biogas), the majority of which will be hydroelectricity. According to the vision of the Prime Minister, the goal is to increase renewable energy by 20 percent by 2025 and by 30 percent by 2030.

With “climate change reaction” as one of the primary objectives of its new energy policy, the Korean government has re-established the energy mix to boost the proportion of renewable energy to 21,6% by 2030.

In this regard, the Korean government is concentrating on the first commercialization of next-generation solar power technology and the advancement of the domestic value chain in the wind power industry, while serving as a bridge between developed and developing countries for greenhouse gas reduction and adaptation to climate change in numerous climate negotiations.

The Korean embassy has invited officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Economic Affairs Division, and Korean and Pakistani firms specialising in renewable energy projects.

In accordance with the aspirations of the Pakistani and Korean governments, the purpose of the seminar will be to provide a forum where all parties may discuss synergistically and pave the road for a jointly sustainable and greener future for both countries in terms of climate and energy.
