The Federal government will likely name the President of the National Bank of Pakistan in the near future. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, a seven-member panel led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar conducted interviews for the position of President of the National Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Finance has shortlisted fourteen candidates for the job of President NBP. SEVP CIBG Samba Bank Syed Ghazanfar, GH Bank of Punjab Mustafa Hamdani, Chief RBG ABL Tariq Javed Ghumman, SEVP Meezan Bank Muhammad Abdullah, Group Executive Chief and Chief Risk Officer UBL Imran Sarwar, CEO BoP Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti, CEO FWBL Farrukh Iqbal, COO Askari Bank Khurshid Zafar, GH Silk Bank Hassan Raza
According to reports, Abdul Ghani, Abdul Razaq, and Naheed Sultana have also participated in interviews for the President of the NBP.
Earlier on August 13, the Ministry of Finance postponed interviews due to disagreements between the former finance minister, PML-N leaders, and the ruling PDM coalition.
Recall that on 11 May, the government handed group chairman CIBG Rehmat Ali Hasnie the responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of the bank as President of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
Notably, ISI and IB, as a special vetting agency, also conduct the verification and screening of public office holders for induction, critical postings, and promotions, and they will also vet the recommended candidates for the position of president of the NBP.
