Uber discontinues services in five Pakistani cities

The ride-hailing app Uber stated on Tuesday that it would only be accessible in Lahore and would shut down operations in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad.

The decision to stop running the Uber app in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad has been decided. Uber continues to be committed to Pakistan; we will keep running the Uber app in Lahore and providing services in these five locations under the Careem subsidiary brand, according to a statement from the ride-hailing company.

The ride-hailing app advised its users to use Careem, the app they acquired in 2019, in the five cities where they no longer offer their services.

International ridesharing service In March 2019, Uber paid $3.1 billion to purchase Careem, a competitor in the Middle East.
