Pakistan looks to set up semiconductors zone

In an interview, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that Pakistan has proposed an ambitious plan to build a semiconductors zone with China’s help, converting Pakistan to self-sufficiency in modern gadgets and opening new avenues for development.

He stated that during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit, they talked about bringing the semiconductor sector to Pakistan and how vital this technology was not just for Pakistan but also for China.

“We want Chinese technology companies to come to Pakistan and turn it into a semiconductor manufacturing hub,” the minister continued.

It should be noted that the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting also served as the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, and during that time, he signed numerous memorandums of understanding and agreements on semiconductor technology, as well as collaborating with China to train Pakistanis in semiconductor technology.

“We’d also like to start designing semiconductors in Pakistan.” I’m delighted to inform you that Chinese investors are eager to collaborate with Pakistan, and the technological zone will be transformed into a semiconductor zone,” he stated.

Chaudhry Fawad went on to say that there was a lot of room for cooperation in science and technology between the two countries and that while mobile phones are presently constructed in Pakistan, they would like to go a step further and establish full-fledged manufacturing.

He stated that bilateral cooperation in the area of health-related types of equipment had increased, which was also very important, and that they were importing everything linked to this area in the first few months of COVID-19, but that Pakistan is now a big exporter of health material.

“We have achieved a significant milestone in a short period of time, and the health sector is now willing to collaborate.” Pakistan boasts skilled labor at a lower cost, as well as a large market. We expect that Chinese tech businesses will team up with Pakistani enterprises to join our technology zone and that we will be able to expand our collaboration in these areas,” he said.

He hoped that after the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s visit, many Chinese technology businesses would come to Pakistan because Semi-Conductor was a vital ingredient of every technology, which would assist add value to local manufacturing products.

Prime Minister Imran Khan met with CEOs of China’s largest technological enterprises during his visit, and the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in software development, information and communication technology, medical diagnostics, and other related fields.
