Train service with Iran and Turkey demanded

Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, convenor of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries’ Central Standing Committee on Railways, has urged the federal government to take real steps to reintroduce freight trains between Pakistan and Iran and Turkey.

He stated in a news release that goods train service may be a significant source of revenue for Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey.

The revival of the goods train service will not only facilitate the movement of commodities between neighbouring nations in a short period of time but also at a fair cost due to cheap transportation charges and taxes.

“Expanding trade between the three countries will contribute to regional stability and benefit a large number of people,” Zia-ul-Sarhadi stated.

Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, a former leader of the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), added that the train service could also be used to promote tourism.
