Punjab has accelerated efforts to establish a provincial transmission and distribution (T&D) company comparable to the National Transmission and Distribution Company (NTDC).
In this regard, the provincial energy department has submitted a summary to the provincial cabinet seeking approval to establish the Punjab Provincial Grid Company.
“Sindh has already formed its own transmission company. We must have the same arrangement under the 18th Amendment. According to Punjab Energy Minister, the summary that was sent to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar for approval is being followed up on.
Pakistan’s overall energy demand in 2018-19 was 25,627MW, with Punjab consuming 14,472MW alone. The province’s energy demand is forecast to reach 24,000MW by 2027-28.
Similarly, 68 percent of revenue is provided by a sizable customer base in Punjab. The province accounts for 66% of the country’s overall electricity use.
