A startup featured on the PSL is transforming lives of the deaf

DeafTawk, a startup whose founder, Wamiq Hasan, was recently featured on the Pakistan Super League’s “Hamarey Heroes” segment, is changing the lives of millions of Pakistanis with hearing disabilities.

The DeafTawk app provides sign language interpretation for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. It employs over 1100 interpreters who work in six different languages and have completed over 94,000 hours of interpretation work to date.

The startup’s founder is also a member of the deaf community, and it has been accelerated by the National Incubation Center and Jazz. The United Nations Development Programme named it the best Asian startup.

DeafTawk’s mission is to empower Pakistan’s deaf community by providing job opportunities through a robust platform. It can be used to carry out simple day-to-day tasks like giving instructions or attending and answering questions at a job interview – tasks that would be difficult to complete otherwise if help was not available.

The platform is currently only available in Pakistan and Singapore, but it plans to expand throughout Asia and eventually reach a global audience.
