Yasir Hameed, CEO of LNG Easy (Pvt) Ltd, said that Pakistan’s first licenced virtual LNG pipeline company will play a major role in ensuring uninterrupted LNG for domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers across the world.
Speaking at a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) in Faisalabad, he referred to the widening of the gap between demand and energy supply in Pakistan, which will be further exacerbated by the depletion of existing gas reservoirs.
Compared to 29 percent of the national energy mix, just 20 percent is transmitted and distributed via a pipeline network, he said. He said Pakistan will continue to face a shortage of this safe and environmentally friendly fuel even after the completion of the North-South pipeline, as the industrialization phase has been targeted due to positive government policies. “We need a virtual pipeline to cater to the country’s energy needs,” he said, adding that supplying pipelines is an expensive choice, so we are implementing a virtual pipeline via an integrated transport system to supply LNG from Qatar to any destination in Pakistan.
Continuing, Yasir Hameed said the government has declared that it would stop the supply of gas to the industrial sector’s captive power plants from June this year. LNG Simple (Private) Limited will, in compliance with mutually agreed terms and conditions, ensure the supply of LNG to these units so that the industrial process can proceed without interruption,” he added.”
