China Builds ‘Digital Silk Road’ in Pakistan

China is expected to lay the final stretch of a cross-border fiber optic cable in Pakistan that will create the Digital Silk Road, serving the geostrategic interests of both nations.

The fibre cable will be connected to the Pakistan East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) submarine cable in the Arabian Sea, to the BRI service countries and to Europe.

The PEACE cable will provide the shortest direct internet route between the participating countries and will greatly reduce the time necessary for the transmission of internet data.

The report reported that a cable is currently being laid between Rawalpindi and the port cities of Karachi and Gwadar. the government approved “The $240 million project, which Huawei Technologies is partnering with in China last week,” it added.

The laying of sea cables in the country’s territorial waters will start in March, with the government approving the establishment of a landing station for the Arabian Sea in Karachi this month.
