Pakistan and China Working Collaboratively to develop E-Commerce Platforms

Mr. Moin ul Haque, China’s Ambassador, said that Pakistan is moving towards digitalization and is currently working with China, the neighboring country, to develop e-commerce platforms.

He told China Economic Net that Pakistan is currently moving at a very fast pace in the growth of e-commerce as in the past few years. He also added that we are already working with Chinese companies to set up such e-commerce sites in Pakistan as part of the program for poverty alleviation known as “Ehsaas,” which is already doing very well in Pakistan.

Pakistan is an agricultural country that may be very powerful and has a great economy because of this, but in this field of agriculture and other sectors, we need to modernize, he said.

Our nation needs to have much better seeds for agricultural land, along with a modern system for proper irrigation and high crop yields, according to Moin. “He also added that “I believe there is a lack of investment in Pakistan or better infrastructure than cold chain networks.

These are, however, very important aspects and areas in which China, the neighboring country, is very competitive, though praising China for alleviating 800 million people in their country from total poverty, he added.

Moin ul Haque also highlighted the key role of advancement and new technology in poverty alleviation in China while speaking to China Economic Net.

As part of their poverty alleviation policy, e-commerce platforms have been used there to sell their farm and village goods in China. Farmers were also given basic technology instruction, such as the use of smartphones or cell phones, how to use e-commerce stores and how to brand their goods, etc. As in the previous year of 2020, China’s e-commerce revenues were about $18 trillion, which was reported as the world’s highest sales. Haque took this example and listed in this agricultural industry chain the importance of the cold chain as well as the logistics.

In addition to the cold chain infrastructure and logistics, we neglect modernization of technical processes, as most of our farm products are literally wasted from the initial stage of the farms to the main markets.

Finally, he added that we need investments in these ventures of our cold chain industry and storage modernization to render the correct systems and infrastructures. We are currently collaborating with Chinese authorities, however, just to upgrade the cold chain in Pakistan’s logistics.
