The appointment of Asim Shahryar Husain as its new Chief Executive Officer was announced by Ignite, the National Technology Fund, a company set up under the IT & Telecom Ministry to finance Pakistan’s software innovation and tech start-up ecosystem. With a rare mix of more than 25 years of experience in corporate strategy, business development, product management, project management, financial management, marketing planning, and sales of technology products/services in the USA and Pakistan, Asim has worked in both the private and public sectors.
He led organizations such as Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and COMSATS Internet Services for 7 years prior to joining Ignite, using his skills in various technology sectors, including IT/software, telecommunications, broadband, and fintech.
Pakistan’s IT remittances, as reported by the State Bank, grew by 78 percent in three years during his tenure as MD PSEB.
He has worked for more than 2.5 years with the Finance Division as Project Director for the Financial Inclusion & Infrastructure Project (FIIP) of the World Bank. Commenting on the occasion, he said: “I am very excited to join Ignite so that I can contribute even more than I did at PSEB to Pakistan’s tech start-up ecosystem.”
