Following consultation with relevant stakeholders, the Federal Government will review social media regulatory rules, AGP Khalid Javed told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.
During the hearing of a petition against recently approved social media rules established by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the disclosure was made (PTA).
The Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) appeared in the case before the federal court and told the court that the administrative rules had not yet been finalized.
“The government can make changes to the rules for social media,” Khalid said.
The court adjourned the further hearing of the case until 26 January after granting the federal government time to review the laws (tomorrow).
Earlier, in order to protect residents, the government adopted new rules for social media.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, chairing a meeting to study the rules on social media, said that the new rules were not ready to restrict freedom of speech or victimize political opponents.
PM Imran Khan had, on that date, advised the authorities concerned to take all stakeholders on board.
