Following the recent change in the privacy policy of WhatsApp, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Pakistan is preparing to enact a strict data protection law to protect the privacy of its citizens.
“WhatsApp Privacy Policy allows data sharing of consumers sensitive information, Ministry of Science and Technology, is considering introducing a strong data protection law to protect citizens privacy,” stated Chaudhry in a tweet post. In his view on privacy policy issues, the Minister claimed that such policy changes should have been made after broader consultation instead of a unilateral approach.
The move comes after updating its terms and privacy policies for WhatsApp, the world’s largest messaging network, in which the platform can exchange user data with Facebook, the parent company.
Key updates provide more detail on the WhatsApp service and how it handles user data, how companies can use Facebook posted services to store and manage their WhatsApp conversations, and how WhatsApp partners with Facebook to offer connectivity through the products of the Facebook business, as per the WhatsApp notification.
By pressing the revised terms and privacy policy, which will take effect on 8 February 2021, into agrees acceptance. This means that if the consumer does not comply with the current terms and privacy policy, after February 8, 2021, they will no longer be able to use the website.
