Muscat-based start-up Exahertz has achieved a significant milestone in Oman’s blockchain sector by gaining government approval for its ambitious blockchain data center project in Salalah. With support from Axeron Capital Holding Ltd, Moonwalk Systems FZCO, and Shumookh Investment and Services, Exahertz aims to establish Oman as a prominent blockchain hub in the Middle East. This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, as well as the Authority for Public Services Regulations (APSR), reflecting Oman’s commitment to infrastructure development and job creation across various sectors.
H.E Eng. Saeed Bin Hamoud Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, emphasized the ministry’s aim to foster cooperative partnerships with local and international private sector entities in various digital technologies. This effort aligns with the country’s vision of boosting its digital economy using submarine cables.
The Founder of Axeron and CEO of Exahertz, Jad Fredrick Kharma, highlighted the pivotal role of blockchain computing in shaping the digital economy’s foundation. Exahertz aims to invest in Web 3.0, Industry 4.0, and AI infrastructure, propelling innovation and growth. Kharma also underscored the interconnectivity of blockchain, hyperscale, and energy, emphasizing the need for robust integration to drive progress.
Oman’s Authority for Public Services Regulations Chairman, H.E Sheikh Mansour Bin Taleb Bin Ali Al Hinai, expressed enthusiasm for projects like Exahertz’s, which contribute to modernizing Oman’s business diversification and technology industry. Exahertz plans to rapidly expand by investing in cutting-edge infrastructure and strategic partnerships.
Notably, Exahertz has gained the support of industry players, including Bitmain, positioning itself as a leading Bitcoin mining firm in the region. Despite recent fluctuations in Bitcoin prices, Exahertz and Moonwalk Systems successfully operated a testing facility in SFZ since March 2023, generating valuable insights and data.
District Cooling provider Tabreed-Oman is contributing to the project’s sustainability by providing energy-efficient cooling solutions for the data center. Abdullah Hiani, CEO of Tabreed Oman, emphasized their role in adopting advanced technologies and sustainable cooling infrastructure.
Sam Ferdows, CEO of Moonwalk Systems, a primary supporter of Exahertz, highlighted their commitment to creating state-of-the-art blockchain data centers. The pilot project, ‘Area 51,’ set an industry record for speed of development while maintaining quality and standards.
Dr. Ali Tabook, CEO of Salalah Free Zone, supports Exahertz’s project for its positive impact on Salalah’s sectors and Oman’s 2040 vision goals. The establishment of groundbreaking data centers will fuel scientific achievements, innovation, and transformative collaborations.
